Blackwoods Gin and Vodka

We handpick Shetland botanicals each year to give our gin and vodka their distinctive, yet subtle, flavour. Every harvest is determined by the plants available from these distant islands. Using a traditional copper still, we produce only in small batches.

About Shetland

Shetland is a natural world where wildlife is truly wild. It has a rugged beauty with continuously changing colours, textures and weather, truly enchanting.

Shetland is situated off the north coast of Scotland towards Norway, resting 60° north. This is where the North Sea collides with the Atlantic Ocean giving it an oceanic climate. This causes long winters and beautiful short summers, although because the Shetland lies so far north it enjoys a ‘summer dim’, where summer days can last up to 19 hours.

On fine days the islands are idyllic; rich in spectacular vistas and wildlife. During winter the storms are equally breath-taking.

These harsh weather conditions only allow four hundred plant species to flourish. However, isolated and sheltered areas, like cliff edges, provide beautiful hanging gardens of unusually hardy plants which have adapted to survive in these extreme climatic conditions.
